The Murray Mallee is located in the upper south east of South Australia, with an estimated population of 40,000 people. The region includes the Southern Mallee District Council, District Council of Karoonda East Murray, Coorong District Council, Mid Murray District Council and the Rural City of Murray Bridge Local Government Areas.

The original owners of the Murray Mallee region include the Ngarrindjeri, Nganguraku, Ngarkat and Wergaia peoples.

The Murray Mallee features diverse natural landscapes including the Murray River, the Coorong and many national parks and conservation areas. The primary industry across the region is agriculture, particularly sheep grazing, grain growing and dairy farming. Murray Bridge is the largest town, with a population of around 17,500.
